The Nike Air Max 1 is a bona fide design classic. Designed by Tinker Hatfield and released in 1987 it has established a cult following, in it’s 30+ years of existence. Inspired by the architecture of the Centre Pompidou, it was the first trainer to offer a window to the sole, kickstarting a revolution in sneaker design. Inside Information: Sneakerheads is a celebration of the greatest moments in the history of the modern sneaker, all hidden inside the iconic Air Max trainer. Starting with the invention of vulcanised rubber by Charles Goodyear in 1839 and including Jesse Owens domination of the 1936 Berlin Olympics in Dasslers, Bill Bowerman’s infamous experiments with his wife’s waffle iron, the invention of AIR technology by NASA Engineer Marion Franklin Rudy, the launch of Reebok InstaPump Fury and the realisation of Nike's first self lacing trainers, designed by Tiffany Beers and released 26 years after they were first featured in Back to the Future Part II.
